Seeking a sanctuary from the city, these empty nesters fell for a romantic waterfront "shack," dreaming of transforming it into a serene haven for their adult children and extended family. Designing for this idyllic spot came with a strict caveat: the house sits in a BAL-FZ (Flame Zone) and the boatshed in BAL-40, requiring a meticulous selection of non-flammable materials and fire-rated doors and windows. The resulting design beautifully respects the heritage of the original fisherman’s cottage, seamlessly layering in new outdoor living areas and an additional upper level for bedrooms.
