harbourside resort house- in progress- sydney new south wales
The architectural strategy seamlessly blends the romantic, historical weight of the 1920s California Mission Revival estate with an ultra-contemporary, landscape-driven expansion. Designed as a multi-generational sanctuary for a European-based family, the master plan balances grand-scale hospitality with sophisticated private zoning, creating an world-class resort experience in Australia.
Heritage Respect & Spatial Separation
To preserve the integrity and prominent profile of the original 1920s residence, the extensive new programming is cleverly integrated into the site's natural topography. Rather than competing with the historic facade, the additions step down the hillside, ensuring the heritage home remains the crown jewel of the estate while unlocking panoramic views for the new structures.
The Sub-Lawn Staff Arc
The dedicated staff and guest accommodations are masterfully concealed beneath a sweeping, manicured grand lawn.
The Form: A sweeping architectural curve engineered directly into the slope.
The Experience: This subterranean placement provides complete acoustic and visual privacy between the main house and the staff quarters.
Light & Air: A single-aspect design features floor-to-ceiling glazing along the arc, bathing the rooms in natural light and offering private, outward-facing views of the lower landscape.
The Wellness & Entertainment Pavilion
Stepping further down the natural contour of the site reveals the estate’s primary recreational hub—a dramatic, multi-level wellness pavilion.
The Pool: A spectacular, infinity-edge suspended pool that appears to float above the landscape, creating a striking visual horizon line.
The Amenities: Immersive fitness suites, a world-class gym, and bespoke indoor-outdoor entertaining spaces.
The Vibe: Transitioning from the historic weight of the Mission Revival house to the subterranean arc, this final tier culminates in a lightweight, transparent pavilion that epitomizes modern Australian resort living.
